Àngels Barceló at the Cariñena Wine Museum with Hoy por Hoy
Last week, the Cadena SER radio program “Hoy por Hoy”, hosted by Àngels Barceló, was broadcast live from the Cariñena Wine Museum. This special edition was part of the celebrations for Cariñena’s designation as European City of Wine 2025 and offered a comprehensive look at the wine culture, heritage, and identity of the region.
Spain’s leading morning radio show, with over three million daily listeners, moved its studio to the museum auditorium for a broadcast focused on wine, the historical roots of Cariñena, and its social values. The event was free and open to the public, and was very well received by attendees. It was supported by the Cariñena Town Hall, the Cariñena Designation of Origin, and the Campo de Cariñena Wine Route.
A broadcast from the heart of wine
The Cariñena Wine Museum was chosen as the venue for its symbolic, cultural, and heritage value. Located in the former School of Viticulture and Enology building, the museum represents the living memory of wine in the region and is currently undergoing a museographic renovation to become an even more immersive and experiential space.
The broadcast of the program from its facilities not only served as a showcase to display the museum to a national audience, but also reinforced its role as the epicenter of wine tourism and the dissemination of information about the wine of the D.O. Cariñena.
The choice of the museum was not accidental: it is an active part of the story that connects territory, history, wine and community.
Local guests and voices from the territory
Àngels Barceló was joined during the broadcast by various local personalities and guests. Among them was the mayor of Cariñena, Sergio Ortiz, who emphasized the rise of wine tourism and the role of wine as a social and economic driver, especially in rural areas. Ortiz also highlighted how designations of origin help to retain the population and guarantee quality.
Antonio Serrano, president of the Cariñena Designation of Origin Regulatory Board, also participated, precisely defining the unique character of the local wines. “The stones, the native Aragonese grape varieties, and the cierzo wind are the keys to the perfect equation that gives our wine its identity,” he stated during his presentation.

The broadcast also included interviews with leading figures in the region’s cultural scene. Writer Antón Castro and filmmaker Javier Calvo presented their joint project, the film “Cariñena, Wine of the Sea,” based on Castro’s novel of the same name and sponsored by the Cariñena Designation of Origin. They shared their reflections on the region’s rich narrative tradition and its value as a source of creative inspiration.

Wine as a cultural and emotional element
One of the most original moments of the program was the so-called “sound tasting,” a section that combined the sensory experience of wine with ambient sounds. Using natural and ambient noises such as wind, earth, and leaves, the landscape that gives life to the vines of the Cariñena Designation of Origin was evoked. This sensory approach allowed the audience to connect emotionally with the land, even through the airwaves.
In addition, music and literature also had their place. The Aragonese group Los Gandules contributed their unique humor and musical style with live performances, while the writer Irene Vallejo participated in the “Library” section with Antonio Martínez Asensio, creating a reflective atmosphere about reading, time, and wine.
Cariñena as European City of Wine 2025
The live broadcast of “Hoy por Hoy” from the Cariñena Wine Museum is part of the extensive program of activities promoted by the title of European City of Wine 2025, awarded by RECEVIN. Throughout the year, Cariñena hosts cultural, educational, and promotional events that reinforce its position as an international wine tourism destination.
The visit of Àngels Barceló and her team to the town has provided a national platform for the Cariñena Designation of Origin, its wineries, its landscapes, and its people. It has also highlighted the museum’s capacity to host high-level events and generate impactful cultural experiences. Institutional support and the involvement of the local community have been key to the success of this initiative.
