European Wine Tourism Day in Cariñena: history, wine and sweets in a unique experience

A European Wine Tourism Day event featuring culture, wine and heritage at the Cariñena Wine Museum

The Cariñena Wine Museum celebrated European Wine Tourism Day with an experience that brought together history, heritage and flavour. The activity, organised by the museum, brought together wine and culture lovers to enjoy a full day that showcased the essence of the European City of Wine 2025.

During the morning, participants visited some of the town’s most emblematic sites: the Torreón de las Monjas, the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción with its spectacular Gothic-Levantine tower, the Town Hall Square with the iconic Fuente de la Mora fountain, the Church of Santo Cristo de Santiago and the popular Walk of Fame, where stars pay tribute to prominent figures in Aragonese wine and culture.

After the visit, the participants entered the Cariñena Wine Museum, a place where stones tell stories and wine becomes a narrative.

The museum, which combines tradition and technology, offers an immersive journey through the Cariñena Designation of Origin, from its origins to the present day. The rooms invite you to look, smell and feel: century-old barrels, unique pieces of wine-making heritage and sensory experiences that connect the past, present and future of a land that has been speaking the language of wine for centuries.

The visit ended in their tasting room, a space designed for enjoyment and learning, where the highlight of the day awaited us: a tasting pairing wines with sweets made by the legendary Pastelería Manuel Segura, an artisan gem with over 150 years of history.

Wine pairing tasting: three wines, three desserts, three stories

Experience and tasting on European Wine Tourism Day in Cariñena

The gastronomic experience on European Wine Tourism Day was a tribute to the diversity and creativity of the Cariñena Designation of Origin, with three carefully selected pairings:

Blanc de Noirs Cava – San Valero Winery

Pairing: Juan Altamiras pastries

We began by toasting with Cava Blanc de Noirs from Bodegas San Valero, a 100% Grenache sparkling wine that embodies the elegance of simplicity. Its fine bubbles, freshness and hint of red fruit made it the perfect start to the morning. We accompanied it with traditional ‘Juan Altamiras’ pastries from Pastelería Manuel Segura, a recipe inspired by 18th-century cookbooks that continues to delight palates. Tradition and modernity in a single sip, with a touch of sweetness that brought more than a few smiles.

Key Moment – Bodegas Paniza

Pairing: Moscatel wines from Cariñena

Forest Path – Free and Wild

Pairing: Chocolate with Garnacha salt

The tasting concluded with a bold and emotional proposal: Camino del Bosque, a red wine made with Garnacha and Cariñena by the Libre y Salvaje winery, a young, artisan project that champions the value of mountain vineyards. With its notes of ripe fruit, cocoa and spices, the wine blended harmoniously with a Garnacha salted chocolate, creating an intense and sensory finish that was as surprising as it was delicious.
